Disinsectization of empty grain stores before harvest
Empty grain storage facilities may be a breeding ground for many insects. May and June are the perfect months to implement measures to protect grain against storage pest infestation. Key considerations
Empty grain storage facilities may harbor a range of insects ready to infest incoming grain. To ensure a storage pest-free environment, preventive measures must be adopted well before grain intake. Cleaning or pesticide use alone will not necessarily eliminate the threat posed by pests in empty granaries.
May and June are the perfect months to implement preventive measures which will help to protect grain against storage pests. Key considerations

Clean, check and maintain any equipment in the granary.

Review electrical and mechanical safety protections.

Repair any roof leaks or damaged rain gutters.

Check walls for defects or traces of ground water seeps.

Remove dead spaces where dust accumulates, impeding proper cleaning.

Secure the grain store against entry by rodents and birds. Monitor storage space for signs of rodent infestation.

Ensure that any species which are not subject to pest control have no access to rodenticides.

Use non-breakable covers to avoid glass contamination upon grain intake.

Use industrial grade vacuum cleaners.

Remove waste (including vacuum cleaner contents) immediately after cleaning.

Dispose of waste at a safe distance from the grain store.

Reduce the risk of pest infestation.

Perform final inspection for water residues.

Store any fodder and similar materials away from the main store.

Monitor the store for insects by placing insect traps in the corners and at the junctions between walls and floors at 4–5 meters intervals and check them regularly. Where live insects or traces of pest infestation are found, treat the building with K-Obiol. Do not store any grain until all treated surfaces are completely dry.
Note that K-Obiol provides up to 2 months of protection – the product remains on wall surfaces during this period, unlike fumigation, whose results are short-lived. Moreover, K-Obiol may be used in rooms with low gas-tightness.
K-Obiol should be applied using spraying equipment which allows building fabric to be treated up to a height of 15 meters. The product is intended for professional use in clean, empty grain storage facilities. Ensure the right pressure to enable the product to permeate into poorly accessible areas on beams and in roof spaces. These areas often harbor insects.
Apply adequate safety measures when using pesticides. Before every use, read the label and relevant product information. In particular, note the hazard statements and symbols featured on the label and apply the recommended safety measures.
